Lorine Froedge Obituary

Mattie Lorine Proffitt Froedge, 95, died June 11, 2021.  She was born September 19, 1925, to Oral and Ernest Wood Proffitt.  Ernest died when Lorine was 2 years old, and her father married Iva Emberton when Lorine was 5.  Lorine attended Hickory Grove Elementary School and Gamaliel High School in Monroe County.  After high school, she attended Draughon’s Business College in Nashville, TN.  From Draughon’s, she went to work in the Pentagon as a “War Girl.”  Following the War, she returned to Monroe County and began working at the Deposit Bank with her lifelong close friend and cousin, Bea Simpson Lane, who survives.
Lorine was introduced by friends to her future husband, Wendall Froedge, as he was walking down the street in Tompkinsville after he returned from his service in WWII.  They married on December 13, 1947, and shared a very special 66 years together until his death in 2013.  When Wendall became a minister early in the marriage, Lorine became his religious and spiritual partner.  In 1962, they jointly started a business, Froedge Machine and Supply, in which she was chief bookkeeper and financial manager, and she continued to be involved in the firm for over 50 years.  She worked hard and excelled at all her roles, most of all as mother to 5 children.  She is survived by those children, Eugenia Lee (Mark) Toma, Lexington, KY; Ernie Maretta (Steve) Simms, Nashville, TN; Lorinda Sue (Jerry) Jones, Rineyville, KY; Hugh Tom (Sharon) Froedge, Tompkinsville, KY; and Joseph Wendall (Krista) Froedge, Louisville, KY.  Grandchildren are Calvin Froedge, Mattie Toma, Lori (Abi) Froedge-John, Amelia Simms, Harrison Froedge, Cassie Froedge, and Grace Froedge.  She is also survived by half-brother Danny (Mary) Proffitt, brother-in-law Paul (Ruthie) Froedge, and many loving nieces and nephews.  Half-sister, Barbara Geralds, preceded her in death.  Lorine was a lifelong member of Gulley Creek Missionary Baptist Church.
