Laverne (Craig) Pinckley, 95, of Tompkinsville, KY, passed away Friday, February 2nd, 2024.
Laverne was born in Gamaliel, KY on January 18, 1929, a daughter of the late Amie (Proffitt) Craig and Glen Monroe Craig.
In 1955, she married Bratton Pinckley in Franklin, KY. Bratton preceded her in death on June 13, 1997.
After graduating High School she went on to Western Kentucky University where she earned her Bachelors, Masters and Rank I. Laverne was the first person to get a Rank 1 in Monroe County, KY. Laverne dedicated her life to the education of Monroe County during her 48 year career. She taught 1 year at New Design one room school, 2 years at Gamaliel School, 11 years at Tompkinsville High School, then she went to the central office where she worked as an Instructional Supervisor for 34 years. After her retirement from the Monroe County Board of Education, she became a greeter at Wal-Mart for over 12 years. At the time of Laverne's passing, she was the oldest living Retired Teacher in Monroe County. Laverne was a member of Tompkinsville Church of Christ.
Laverne is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Dr. Pippa Pinckley-Stewart and Dennis, of Bowling Green, KY; Teena Steen and Billy Joe, of Glasgow, KY; two grandchildren, Barrett Hammer, and wife, Hilary, and Brianna Grider, and husband, Bradley; and five great grandchildren, Caden, Conlee, Corbin, Cara, and Bratton.
Laverne is also survived by two sisters, Willadean Carter, of Tompkinsville, KY; Glenda Gregory, of Georgetown, KY and a brother, Jimmie Craig, of Gamaliel, KY.
Other than her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by two sisters, Mae Van Petett and Virginia Craig, and a brother, Earl Lawrence Craig.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, February 5, at Tompkinsville Church of Christ, burial to follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Sunday afternoon, 2-6 p.m. at Yokley Trible Funeral Home and on Monday morning after 8:00 a.m. until service time at 1:00 p.m. at Tompkinsville Church of Christ.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Laverne's memory may be made to Monroe County Retired Teachers Scholarship Fund or to Oak Hill Cemetery.
