James Neal Martin, 72, of Lexington, Kentucky, passed away on August 8, 2022, in Rochester, Minnesota, where he was receiving treatment for an extended illness. He was born January 11, 1950, in Glasgow, Kentucky, the son of the late Dr. Jesse Jack and Olive Conover Martin of Tompkinsville, Kentucky.
A native of Monroe County, Mr. Martin graduated from Tompkinsville High School and served proudly on its football team. He received his Bachelor of Arts and Juris Doctor degrees from the University of Louisville. A member of the Kentucky Bar Association and the First Baptist Church, Richmond, Mr. Martin practiced law and served as an Assistant Commonwealth Attorney for Madison County for a number of years. Mr. Martin was civically engaged, having served as President of the Richmond Rotary Club and as a member of the Board of Directors of the Deposit Bank of Monroe County and Monroe County Nursing Home, among others. Mr. Martin was a lover of dogs and the outdoors, but would remind those enjoying the latter to wear sunscreen.
Mr. Martin is survived by his daughter Amelia Martin (Will) Adams and granddaughter Eloise Bennett Adams, both of Lexington; sister Mary Katherine Martin (Stanley Murrell) of Louisville; brother John Ewing Martin-Rutherford of Louisville; and niece, Jessica Delker (Kevin) Klein of Louisville. In addition to his parents, Mr. Martin was preceded in death by his sister Jane Martin Delker, and his nephew, William Martin Delker.
Private funeral services will be held at the family’s gravesite in Tompkinsville with Yokley-Trible Funeral Home handling arrangements. Memorial contributions may be directed to your preferred charity
