Gilbert Matteson

It is with much sorrow that we announce the passing of Gilbert Matteson, a husband, and father, who left this world on November 18, 2024, at the age of 82 at the Monroe County Medical Center. Gilbert’s life was a testament to love, perseverance, and kindness. A devoted husband to his wife Louise, a proud father to his children, a grandpa, uncle, brother, and friend even to those who weren't blood. Gilbert’s family was the center of his world, along with a love for fishing. His unwavering support, wisdom, and quiet strength guided his loved ones through life's joys and challenges. As a father, he was a constant source of encouragement and a model of integrity. Gilbert’s warmth extended beyond his immediate family. As an uncle, he shared countless moments of laughter, wisdom, and care with his nieces and nephews, shaping their lives with the same compassion and dedication that defined his own. His legacy of kindness will live on in the stories, memories, and values he imparted to those fortunate enough to have known him. A man of deep conviction, Gilbert faced life’s difficulties with grace and resilience. Whether offering a listening ear or lending a hand, he embodied the very essence of generosity and strength. His sense of humor and his ability to bring people together will forever be cherished by his family, friends, and all who crossed his path. While Gilbert is physically no longer with us, his spirit remains alive in the hearts of his loved ones. We are eternally thankful for the time we had with him, for the lessons he taught us, and for the love he gave so freely. His memory will continue to inspire us as we navigate the days ahead, and we find comfort in knowing that he is at peace. The family expresses heartfelt thanks to all who supported Gilbert during his journey. Your kindness, prayers, and love provided him with strength in his final days, and we are forever grateful for your compassion. Gilbert Matteson, you will be greatly missed, never forgotten. Gilbert was born in North Carolina on April 4, 1942, a son of the late Verchie Lee (Stephenson) Berry and Marvin Gilbert Matteson. He married Louise Matteson on April 10, 1981, who survives of Tompkinsville, KY. Gilbert is survived by a daughter, Melinda (Matteson) Pool, of Red Boiling Springs, TN; three sons, Mike Matteson, Nick Matteson, and Jeff Matteson, Gilbert is also survived by one brother, Joel Lewis Matteson and one sister, Jessie Lee Matthews,  and 29 grandchildren. 
Other than his parents, he is preceded in death by brothers, Willis Dean Matteson, Ryley Carl Matteson, Martez Don Charles Matteson and Wade Andrew.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, November 24, at 1:00 p.m. at Yokley Trible Funeral Home, with burial to follow at Harlans Crossroads Cemetery.
Visitation is Sunday morning after 9:00 a.m. at Yokley Trible Funeral Home.
