Eugene "Gene" Goode

Ellis Eugene (Gene) Goode, 75, of Tompkinsville, KY passed away Wednesday March 1, at Hospice of Southern Kentucky in Bowling Green.

 

Born May 11, 1947, in Memphis, TN, he was the son of Arthur Adell and Ora Avilda (Massey) Goode, who preceded Him in death.  He was also preceded in death by His son Jason Matthew Goode.

 

Gene is survived by his wife of 54 years, Sharon (Smith) Goode, one daughter, Jennifer Schaefer (Danny) and three grandchildren, Jessi, Tyler, and Tyson Schaefer all of Lenoir City, Tennessee.

 

Gene was a member of Mt. Gilead Church of Christ.

 

Gene grew up on a farm in Alamo, Tennessee where he learned the usual rural skills of operating a tractor and other farm equipment.  He and Sharon married in 1968 and began their life together.  They lived in several states before coming to Tompkinsville in 1997.  Gene worked at Potter Children’s Home for several years before retiring in 2004.  He felt a deep love for the children he served and the ministry he engaged in.

Gene enjoyed hunting and fishing and working around the place especially if it included using his small tractor.

 

  For the last thirteen years he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, including taking the boys to their first Farm and Tractor show in Louisville, and following Jessi in her swim meets.

 

He will be missed by family and friends.

 

Memorial Services will be held at Yokley Trible Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 7 at 10:30 a.m.

 

Visitation with the family will be from 4:00- 8:00 p.m. on Monday, March 6, and on Tuesday, after 8:00 a.m. until service time at 10:30 a.m.

 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kay Smith Scholarship Fund.
